Blood Orange
I do n’t have a macro lens , but this seemed like a fun challenge so I still wanted to take part . I enlist my swain ’s help and we maneuver to a car park on an unseasonably fond and sunny January sidereal day with the supply . I followed the direction provided in the tutorial using a vase fill with seltzer water , my homemade reflecting telescope of a pizza box seat and tin foil , and white paper as a backdrop . I tried a few different types of fruit ( lime , Actinidia deliciosa , and blood line orange ) but I like the vibrant colour in the shot of the blood orange tree . Since I did n’t have a macro , I pay back in really close while my boyfriend hold the reflector . I was really felicitous with the level of item my non - macro electron lens bring on ! I did some post - processing in Photoshop and generate the water a hint of a bluish hue . I pip this with my canyon EOS Digital Rebel , EF - S 18 - 55 mm lens , 1/250 exposure , f13 .

Baywatch
I scuff my bookshelf out of my office , onto our balcony at lunch period . I used this as a platform and a lump of playdough to keep the pencil in place . My backcloth ? You guess it . A “ Baywatch ” surfboard . I liked the yellowness against the red – what can I say ? As my reflector , I used a composition of foam board . That ’s about it really . Oh yeah , dummy did n’t bring his tripod to operate , so this was done handheld , which is a very stupid endeavor for Macro shot . I ’m lucky I let something remotely useful . Some curve , cloning , and a sharpen in PS CS2 , & voila . Seriously , though . That lens sucks . Canon 50D , 70 - 300 mm Quantaray w/ Macro setting ( It ’s a real POS )

Orchid in Water
For this shot I used a orchidaceous plant that just started bloom yesterday , and a scrap of paper give over from book back . This is my first compliance to the Gizmodo Shooting Challenge , and I ’m very excited how it turn out . I used my Canon Rebel XTi with the Canon Zoom Lens EF 100 - 300 mm at 300 meter for 1/320 , with the aperture set to 5.6 .

Miniature Sunshine
Like the by all odds low - tech approach herein and Bryan Peterson is quickly becoming one of my go to authors … This is a compounding of a j - textile shammy , foil “ kitchen carving board ” reflector in a 4 inch vase . canyon 5D Mark II using a Canon 100 mm Macro Lens – f16 / ISO3200

Grapefruit Disguise
I love using my foil reflector and this was a capital excuse to get out into the sun today , which was unseasonably warm in Connecticut . This is an orange slice , clipped to a vase , with a grim orange t - shirt used as the backdrop , shot using my lens reversing ring . For post processing , I did a bit of sharpening and exposure editing , and the major colouring variety , to dissimilar shades of pink , so it almost take care like a Citrus paradisi . Exif : Nikon D3000 , f/8.0 , 1/1000sec . , ISO 200

Zero Gravity
I feel as though a lot of people might be trying similar projects to what the video recording did ( Using fruit and a carbonated water supply ) . I wanted mine to endure out . I want multitude to have to count at my word-painting and hold their tending for a few minute . What you see is simply a glass of water supply with vesture dye being dropped into it . The phone line you see across the background is the brim of the shabu on the far side . The background I used is a sheet of ice and to settle the “ abstractness ” I flip the photo upside down . What looks abstract is really only upside - down , playing with your head . I only did small - edits in Snapseed for contrast and saturation . I go for you all love . Sony Alpha 320 , steady non - macro lens , ISO at 100

Rusty Scrolls
I corrupt a reverse ring last springiness intend to experiment with macro but had not used it much since . I had just last week determined to actually start using it more when this contest popped up . Perfect timing ! I take this image just on the deck railing at a friends sign . We were just shooting target from around the household wonder if they ’d have interesting texture up close . I found these cinnamon sticks in his basement . I like how they look like rusting pipes and metal or even thick curl . The reflector was concord just to the left for the brief moment the sunshine was n’t behind clouds that good afternoon . Nikon D7000 , Nikkor 50 mm f/1.8D with reversal ring . Shot at ISO 200 , f/11 , 1/15sec

The Amazing Feats of a Whiskey Glass
Let me preface this with the observation that it ’s a teeny-weeny bite difficult to get overhead sun in January in the midwest . at noonday i doubt the sun gets more that 45 academic degree high in the sky . so … accounting for that this photo was taken mid - day with the sunshine at my back , with a whisky glass sitting on a small solid mirror to help light source from the bottom as much as potential , with a poster - table bed sheet from hobby anteroom that was colored a matte silver as well as a car windshield sunlight reflector . I used a Bourgogne sheet of paperboard for the background , The camera is a Sony Alpha A55 using a Tamron 70 - 200 lens at roughly 110 mm with a +4 macro filter . I tried both sparkling water and 7 - up and the 7 - up definitely made for better bubbles . I end up with a ton of shots and it was in reality unmanageable to pick the shot to use and ended up having folks pick their favorite for me on facebook .
