We address Batwoman author Marguerite Bennett to see what ’s in memory board for Kate ’s new record .

io9 : Can you narrate us where the book is happening vis - a - vis the events in Detective Comics ?
Marguerite Bennett : Oh , certain . We ’re actually going to be launching out of Detective and I ’m going to be co - authorship with James Tynion who lead ‘ Tec right now , and — oh wait , I ’m not sure I ’m allowed to — oh , no — Steve [ Epting , Batwoman artist ] was declare ! It ’s okay . We ’ve get some other artist who are contributing to help set in motion the series .
So the series is actually break down to take Batwoman all over the world . basically it ’s just going to be her leaving Gotham to track down a baddie who has bunk the Bat Family ’s jurisdiction , and so it ’s just using intense disastrous ops , going all over . We ’re going to be cut between the past and the present tense , you make out , and we ’re also go to be examining the years that were lost in her backstory .
We know there ’s this period in her life history where she was in a very bad blank space , she ’d been kicked out of the military on do n’t need , do n’t tell … we ’re belong to be examining what encounter during those years — what essentially went right , went wrong , and helped sculpt her into someone who wanted to return to Gotham under this particular missionary work under this special chimneypiece . So it ’s going to be outrageous .
So training chronological succession , Year One kinda thing ?
Bennett : More than that . There are going to be some things that are dead classic for her — not just beating - up skill , but elements that induce this aroused legal injury and emotional strength over those years , hoi polloi that she meet , are basically go to do back to obsess her . It ’s going to be … “ outrageous ” is the word for it .

Bennett : I mean , Detective is die to take the strength of that , since that ’s been one of the Crux Australis of the arcs that James is putting out right now . So the Colony and all that , Detective is still going to be your place for that fix . Her relationship with her Fatherhood in the past times is become to be something that mold the ongoing Batwoman series , but yeah , it ’ll be much more focused than Detective .
The other aspect of the fibre I sense a lot of fans bang is her tumultuous relationship with Renee Montoya . Are you pop off to be addressing that ?
Bennett : Oh yeah , no , by all odds ! Like , ‘ the loves and red of Kate Kane ’ is going to be a primary theme of this book . And some people you have n’t met yet , who were antecedent of her future family relationship .

What ’s the different between indite Kate in this mainline DC book and in Bombshells ?
Bennett : You know , that ’s really sort of been this sport noise so far . Getting to have my cake and eat up it too in the two universes .
You know , within Bombshells so much of the character is reinvention within the context . But in this , you sort of get the true blue , pedigreed version of Kate Kane complete with these characters and these influence . And , in Bombshells , Batman does n’t exist . pageboy one , Kate Kane comes out of the shadows , preclude the execution of the Waynes , and there is no Batman in that universe . Bruce Wayne grows up happy and spoiled . So within father to search this complete universe with all the continuity and with the much bigger playbox , basically — the mold of characters and weapons and villains — the universe is just dead massive . It ’s going to be a muckle of fun to navigate that maze .
How much of the Bat Family are we function to see in Batwoman ?
Bennett : Detective is still going to be your independent place . If you want the Bat Family , that is your Bat Family Good Book . And it ’s break my heart every take . James is so first-class . So yeah , this is definitely going to be concentrate more on her lifetime and her past relationship and things — her core cast of characters , as well as establishing a supporting cast of her own .
