Originally , The Vampire Diaries was a show about going to high school with lamia — and about both vampires and humans examine to keep their man and compassion , in the face of huge challenges . But now TVD and its spinoff , The Originals , are about tribal warfare where everybody is a fatal accident finally .

This calendar week on The master copy , it becomes clear to almost everybody that peace between the different factions in New Orleans ( vampire , werewolves , witches , oh , and humankind ) will never be possible or lasting . And we find the passing of one of the show ’s best peacemakers , the human leader Father Kieran .
And on Vampire Diaries , we take in more understandably than ever that this time of year ’s intensely puddle plot line has really just been about the war between the witches and the Travelers . Two thousand years ago , the witches put a execration on the Travelers , a rival group of magic - users , and now the Travelers are close to breaking that execration forever and a day . At potentially high-pitched monetary value to all our peeps .
Both episode are also about loss and citizenry turning into monsters — the scene boast up top is one of the most moving minute Vampire Diaries has given us in the retiring year . Enzo , Damon ’s pretty nihilistic ally and subsister of the Augustine experimentation , retrieve his most selfless act — saving Maggie , who was unforced to become a lamia to rescue him , and giving her the chance at a normal human life . ( Until Damon killed her . )
Also quite move is the sequence in The Originals where Cami first tries to cure Father Kieran using shock therapy and then win over Klaus to turn her uncle into a lamia . And then Klaus puts his finger on what ’s really going on : there ’s no way that Father Kieran will agree to finish his transition to vampire - hood by course on human lineage . So all Cami is doing by turn him into a prickteaser is buying a few time of day to say goodbye properly .
The twist in both stories is that these act of kindness wind up turning mass into fiend that can not be saved — Enzo turns his humanity off when he find out Damon killed Maggie , and becomes just a arrant inhuman - blooded killer . Kieran ’s oath number back and turns him into the vampire variant of Jack Nicholson in The polishing . They both have to be put down in the closing .
And meanwhile , like I say , these are just small catastrophe against the backcloth of massive tycoon struggles between groups of citizenry that have been war for centuries . Essentialy , the share universe of these show is bulge out to look like the former Yugoslavia after the fall of the Soviet Union .
On The Originals , Elijah tried to broker a peace agreement between all the faction in New Orleans — but before the blood was even wry on the thing , everybody started scheming . include Elijah ’s brother Klaus , who offer Haley ’s werewolf clan a way of life to break the moon swearword and control their translation , with magical rings and shit . The witch are also wheeling and dealing , with Genevieve examine to make them way more mondo herculean and help them take over — or if she fails , she gets axed .
In any character , the peace is fracture , thanks to Klaus ’ vampire foster boy Marcel causing a carnage at the hag ’ party last week , and one of the werewolves faking a terrorist attack on his own werewolf camp this calendar week . Everybody ’s ready to throw down .
And watch all the factions massing for war is definitely more interesting than the show ’s original setup — with Marcel as the King of New Orleans and Klaus as the scheming sire who wants the stool for himself . That frame-up dragged on for quite some prison term , but when it fell apart we got something with longer legs .
And it ’s no stroke that Marcel has become a much more absorbing character as the deport business leader , poised to take vantage of all this in - combat , than as the actual ruler . The good panorama in this week ’s Originals is probably the one where Haley run low to see Marcel , who reveals that he knows more about Haley ’s family than she realizes . Marcel is suave and cunning and kind of impish — and he supports Cami after the death of Father Kieran , while also stealing Father Kieran ’s precious key .
Vampire Diaries , meanwhile , is progressively a show in which two of the three principal characters are McGuffins rather than active participants . We ’ve gone from one doppelganger to two , now that both Stefan and Elena are doppeled - up . Their rake has magical properties , which can serve the Travelers develop the curse placed on them by the Wiccan and finally square off down .
Did any of the Traveler exposition - wank make any sense to anybody this calendar week ? They turned one of their peek into a vampire , then used doppelganger blood to heal her , then kill her . Why did she have to die ? Because lamia are n’t welcome in the Traveler paradise . But did n’t they just say she was n’t a vampire any more ? Bleh . It ’s all a bit puzzling , and it ’s almost enough to make you miss Silas .
The good news is , mayhap we ’ll get to see enchantress and Travelers throwing down soon — and with the Other Side collapsing , maybe drained will at last stand for dead on this show .
