Facebook ’s new digital currency , Libra , has the potential to be bad than the September 11th attacks . At least that ’s what Democratic Congressman Dril ( sorry , Congressman Brad Sherman ) of California say today at a House Committee on Financial Services Hearing in Washington , D.C.
Sherman tore into Facebook executive David Marcus and did n’t even trouble asking him a question . Instead , he made one of the strange analogies in Congressional account .
“ We ’re order by some that innovation is always effective . The most innovative thing that go on this century was when Bin Laden come up with the groundbreaking idea of take flight two airplanes into towers . How could Sherman make such a claim about Libra being potentially worse than terrorism ? The Congressman excuse that terrorists know cryptocurrencies because they ’re largely anonymous , which is actually true . And while there are definitely concerns about Facebook starting its own currency , invoking 9 - 11 is a sheer move , to say the least .
Sherman went on to say that nobody would call it Libra and or else call it Zuck Bucks because , “ this is Zuckerberg ’s infant , ” which will provide privateness protection for , “ drug monger , revenue enhancement evaders , and sanctions evaders . ”
Sherman was quite raging that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was n’t the one sitting in the hearing , which might explicate why the Congressman used his clip to lecture rather than question the Facebook executive , David Marcus . And Sherman end his time by tell that Zuckerberg involve to show up to Congress .
“ We necessitate Zuckerberg here because we demand to tell him that he probably has the power to force this through , ” Sherman said . “ He ’ll give around 10 and 100 of millions of dollar in Washington . His supporter will get huge Zuck Bucks in U.S. dollars . A hundred lawyers will narrate him that what he ’s doing is sound and therefore he ’s safe . ”
