Do you commend when everybody was worried what Apple ’s iBookstore meant for apps like Amazon ’s Kindle ? The undertide of dread Apple would kneecap competing ebook stores the way it does iTunes competitors ? Well , those fearsmay have come honest . update .
Update : So Apple ’s finallyoffered some comment on the situation with bar Sony ’s Reader app :
We have not changed our developer terms or guidelines … We are now requiring that if an app offers customers the power to buy books outside of the app , that the same selection is also usable to customers from within the app with in - app purchase .

So the guidepost themselves have n’t changed , but Apple is obviously now enforcing a prescript that it sort of was n’t . Which sounds like Amazon and others will have to allow you to purchase books at bottom of the app — giving Apple a 30 percent slash of the proceeds in the process . presently , most ebook apps spread Safari to let you purchase ledger .
Original post :
Sony has say the New York Times that Apple block up their Reader app , which would let substance abuser read their Sony books on iOS gadget . Not for a weird reason like individual API use , but according to Sony ’s digital reading president Steve Haber , Apple is mandate that “ all in - app purchase ” go through Apple .

While there could be more here than Sony lets on , what the Times spell out out is disturbing :
The company has told some program developer , including Sony , that they can no longer sell subject , like e - books , within their apps , or permit customers have access to leverage they have made outside theApp Store .
( vehemence mine . That ’s the part that ’s chilling — you’ve never been able to corrupt thing like Kindle Koran from Amazon ’s storage indoors of the apps themselves , but you have been able to access books you bought outside of the App Store . )

That ’s the nuclear option . If Apple follow through on this line , that means no more Kindle book , no Nook books , no content from third - party cartridge clip apps like Zinio , and more . It would go against half the understanding I want an iPad — to interpret Scripture from any source I need , like Kindle . Blocking material I buy from other military service that I used to be able-bodied to take on an iPad wo n’t make me buy iBooks or other mental object from Apple ; it ’ll push me elsewhere . And it ’s just do-or-die .

Kindle , Barnes & Noble ’s Nook , Kobo and Zinio are all still in the App Store . So hopefully there ’s more to this than Sony ’s letting on , but Apple ’s “ no comment ” to the NYT on the issue is n’t abysmally helpful . [ NYT ]
