Jelly Rollis committed to his upcoming 5K.

After announcing hestarted training for a 5Klast month, the country star tells PEOPLE he’s remained true to his word and almost consistently gone on walks to work up to the 3.1-miles required for the race.

“It’s going really good, man,” Jelly, 39, tells PEOPLE of his 5K training in an interview about hisUber Eats Super Bowl commercial. “This is the first week in six weeks I haven’t got my miles in just because the Grammys week’s been so rough, but I have been getting in the sauna.”

The “Need a Savior” singer (whose real name is Jason DeFord) has been on a health journey and says his “ultimate goal for the 5K” is to lose some pounds. “As long as I’m training for this thing, I’m just shedding weight. I’ve been eating crazy good, so I’m excited,” he explains.

However, Jelly clarifies that he’s not participating in the 5K to out-pace anyone else. “I don’t know if ‘running’ is going to be the word, but I’m definitely going to get the 3.1 miles done — probably a brisk power walk,” he says. “My goal is to be able to do a 15-minute mile.”

Three months out from the race, the Grammy-nominated musician is currently walking at a “21-minute mile” pace and plans to “shave six minutes off” before the 5K comes around.

The “Save Me” musician’s wife, Bunnie Xo, will also join her husband when the 5K goes down in May — but most likely as a supporter, not a fellow racer.

“Poor thing, she’d have to walk so slow compared to how fast she does 3.1 miles,” Jelly quips. “For me, a 15-minute mile, [I’m] going to be huffing it a little bit. For Bunnie, a 15-minute mile is her sauntering.”
