Morris teamed up with co-writer, educator and best friend Karina Argow to create the story. After reading to Morris’3½-year-old son Hayes, the two gained inspiration for their own picture book — one that is both accessible for children and adults and touches upon a love for nature.
The book follows the titular character, Addie Ant, as she embarks on her first solo adventure and travels from garden to garden. With help from her fellow insect friends along the way, Addie learns themes like friendship, inclusivity and independence.“We are excited to publish this delightfully written and beautifully illustrated children’s book,” says Gloria Fowler, publishing director of Chronicle Chroma Publishing. “Morris and Argow have created a charming story about the day in the life of a curious and brave little ant that inhabits a vast and magical garden.”

Addie Antisn’t the only initiative Morris and Argow are supporting together. The two also announced that they will be working with the Good Friends Fund, an organization that expands food access to children and families in need. Argow, an avid gardener, also helped Morris to teach her son about growing one’s own produce, and how insects are involved in the process.Morris recently made headlines when she announcedher decision to leave country music. In an interview with theLos Angeles Times,Morris revealed that she felt she “had to take a step back” from the genre, and will now be releasing music on Columbia Records instead of her previous record label, Columbia Nashville. Morris has also been openly opposed toanti-inclusivity within the genre.
Addie Antmay be a new creative endeavor for the singer-songwriter, but the book keeps some of her music’s signature themes, like connection and diversity, in mind. Morris also teases that this won’t be the last readers will see of her curious insect protagonist.
“I’m looking forward to this being the start of many adventures for Addie Ant, who I know will become a beloved children’s character,” she says.Addie Ant Goes on an Adventurewill be published in the spring of 2024.
