The talented actress has had an illustrious career thus far, getting her start at a very young age.
At the age of 8, Brown knew she wanted to be onscreen, but had no acting or singing training growing up. She mastered both on her own, while also beingdeaf in one ear.
“It was like a bug,” Brown toldVarietyof her desire to act. “I know this sounds crazy, but once I find something I want to do, nobody’s stopping me.”

When she was 9 years old, Brown made her acting debut as young Alice on ABC’sOnce Upon a Time in Wonderlandin 2013, a spin-off of the network’sEmmy-nominated seriesOnce Upon a Time.
After that, she held a few minor roles on major shows, including ABC’sModern Family, CBS’sNCIS, ABC’sGrey’s Anatomy,and BBC America’sIntruders.

Brown’s breakout role came when she landed the starring role as Eleven on Netflix’sStranger Thingsin 2016 alongsideFinn Wolfhard,Noah Schnapp,Gaten MatarazzoandCaleb McLaughlin.

Brown receivedher first Emmy Award nominationat age 13 for outstanding supporting actress in a drama series in 2017, and a second nod the following year in the same category for her work onStranger Things. She’s one of the youngest nominees to receive the honor in Emmy history.
Though she didn’t win either of those times, she lit up the red carpetalongside costars Matarazzo and McLaughlin. Brown also presented an award besideEmilia Clarkeat the 70th ceremony.

At age 14, Brown made history in 2018 when she became theyoungest person to be includedon the TIME 100 list of the World’s Most Influential People — joining the likes ofPrince Harry,Meghan MarkleandCardi Bwho also graced the list that year.
Emmy-winning actorAaron Paulwrote anappreciation of Brownfor the publication recalling the first time he met her, saying, “She may have been 12 in years, but her spirit and mind were timeless.”
He continued, “It was like speaking to a future mentor with a perspective and groundedness that I could only have dreamed of at that age. Or at any age, if I’m being honest.”

Brown was named aUNICEF Goodwill Ambassadoron World Children’s Day in 2018, making her the youngest person to be selected for the position at 14 years old.
Standing for the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, the nonprofit organizationselected Brown for the roleto “use her global platform to raise awareness of issues that affect youth around the world, such as lack of education, violence, poverty and bullying.”
The actress was involved with UNICEF prior to being named ambassador, co-hosting the organization’s 70th-anniversary event at the United Nations headquarters.

Brown made her debut as a producer for the Netflix and Legendary Pictures' 2020 mystery filmEnola Holmes(she also starred in it as well) and its2022 sequel. She’s also set to executive produce Netflix’sDamselin 2023.
The actress produced both projects alongside her older sister, Paige Brown, who was inspired to create the film series after reading Nancy Springer’sEnola Holmes Mysteriesseries.
