If you hanker for the days of chunk pits , you do n’t have to sneak into a McDonald ’s to get your mess . Brooklyn - based studioSnarkitecturehas filled the Great Hall of Washington D.C. ’s National Building Museum with almost a million charge card balls .
The project is called The Beach and is meant to emulate an actual seaboard experience with waiting area chair , umbrellas and a snack bar . A 10,000 - square - foot enclosure hold all the balls , meant to symbolise the sea . The bottom of the perdition is lined with aspongiform material that mime the spirit of sand . node are welcome to swim , play or relax in the " pee . "
" We see the commission as an exciting opportunity to create an architectural initiation that reimagines the qualities and possibilities of material , encourages exploration and interaction with one ’s surroundings , and declare oneself an unexpected and memorable landscape painting for visitors to relax and socialise within , " said Snarkitecture cofounder Alex Mustonen .

The effect was paid in part by acrowdfunding campaignon IndieGoGo . More than 150 donors contributed a total of $ 12,155 .
